Online rep report

Hello,

Last month I was quiet with USASA as most of you are knee-deep in the last block of the year concentrating on finals. However, I responded to a few email queries online.

I just wanted to make this post a reflection on where we were and where we are going.

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals” – Zig Ziglar.

As I completed my degree, and as some of you may be near the end after this block, or you still have a few years left. It’s important to think about your goals. This statement rings true to me, as I completed my degree, it’s not the piece of paper I am after (whilst beneficial in career opportunities) it is how I use it and who I become with it that matters.

Obtaining a degree was a life goal, and for some of you this will be similar. As we come to the end of year, reflect on where you were and where you are now, and what you will be in the future. It helps to bring clarity to the day-to-day struggle, reminds you of the hard work completed, and sets a clear picture of where you want to be.

As always, I am happy to respond to any email enquiries. All the best for the following month.

Well well, you’re in the middle of the next block, all the best for the last block of the year, you’re almost there! Remember to look after yourself and your well-being first and foremost.

This past month I’ve been concentrating on moving myself into the workforce after completing my degree. However, I’m still here to support you guys should you need anything and I’m always open to suggestions for anything online related!

Being online sometimes feels isolating, so don’t forget to connect to others where you can too. My email is : Djiay002@mymail.unisa.edu.au

This past month I have been concentrating on my final exam ensuring I succeeded and knew the information as it was my last ever exam before I finish the degree, it certainly took all my spare time and any minute I had free I was studying.

I am sure as you all take a rest from this period you will be able to concentrate on yourselves as the number one priority for a couple of weeks.

Over the next few months as I take a break from studying I will really concentrate on my final impact as part of the USASA board.

If there are any requests for impact, feel free to email me, or about anything else as well

Online student rep report

This last month I got to see the Motivational Mondays come to life with the links I researched. Hopefully you have seen these posted on the USASA socials and they have provided you with inspiration to continue learning and something different to watch other than university lectures.

This month I also took part in providing the online students with some feedback from a student perspective as a student board member of USASA on a UniSA external “sustainable development goals virtual study tour” course which I partook in last year. I spoke to some wonderful online students, alongside the study overseas team from UniSA about my positive experience.

As an online student, you are able to apply for the ‘exclusive to online students’ experience. It dives into the wonderful world of the 17 UN sustainable development goals. You hear from amazing entrepreneurs and people that are doing extraordinary things in this world aligned with the sustainable development goals. It covers poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

It’s a credited course, which means you get points toward your degree and are also fully funded by the Government (if accepted) through the New Columbo Plan. The New Colombo Plan is a highly prestigious grant and recognised as a great experience to explore the Indo-Pacific region through learning and networking. Furthermore, if accepted into the program you are automatically placed in the alumni of the New Columbo Plan where you are invited to many events to establish and grow your own network outside of UniSA. For example, I attended an event at the Government House as part of the alumni of the New Columbo Plan. Additionally, the “Sustainable development goals study tour” has you travelling the world from your office chair with the VR glasses that are given to you as part of the program. If you have a spare elective for your degree, check it out and apply today! I have provided the link for ease.

Hi online students,

This last month I was analysing information from a previous survey I contributed to and was still working alongside the marketing team on empowering and uplifting students through online social posts. I am certainly excited to see these come to life over the next few weeks.

Keep working hard to achieve your goals and getting through those difficult weeks with multiple assignments due and online quizzes on top. We have passed the half way mark for the year and now a few weeks through the next block. I wish you all the best in this block.

As always, reach out if you need:

Online Student Board Member

For the last few weeks, I have been busy creatively thinking of new ways to engage online students. This has seen me meet with Katherine Rich, the Digital Events and Engagement Officer to discuss my ideas and how together we can create an impactful way to reach our online cohort. This idea stems from personal experiences of how I motivate myself, so I am excited about how this idea will come to fruition.

I have also been busy analysing some recently collected data from a previous survey that was sent to students with the help of Bridget Laffy from USASA.  I have been very surprised by the outcome, which gives the Uni and USASA some insight into how the students feel in particular circumstances.

These two mini-projects have kept me busy outside of the normal study, volunteer work and family commitments that I have.

I have also participated on the panel for two academic enquiries which saw me analyse documents and allowed me to speak as part of a team that made a final decision on academic misconduct.

Lastly, I met with the elected online UniSA student representatives via an online training evening. I will be connecting further with these wonderful student leaders as they are an imperative source. Together we will work to advocate for online students in every way possible.

We are (online students) in the midst of study period 3, therefore, I am sure many of you have looming majors, weekly quizzes, and essays due. Please take care of yourselves during this period.

This past month I have still been slowly working away with Aryton (the postgraduate board member) at analysing the external and online environments. Being on the board has really strengthened my business skills.  As a psychology student, these skills are very valuable when it comes to negotiating, writing, speaking and meetings.

Through UniSA study, I was given the chance to attend a small event at South Australia’s Government House and meet the wonderful Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson. Whilst this is not part of my USASA board role, It was an opportunity to meet with the Governor and discuss my role as a USASA board member and the online environment of study. I believe these opportunities will strengthen and unite us as students who are all working towards something special.

The previous board meeting was held on the 19th of April. It was filled with passion, knowledge, excitement, understanding and empathy. I look forward to hearing about the outcome of the previous meeting as we gather to discuss pressing and very important issues.

As I look back on the previous month, I have been quite busy with a few activities through USASA.

I mentioned in my last report that I was working on an exciting project. As some of you may have seen the online exam time survey. I enjoy advocating for students, this survey is giving students an opportunity to express their thoughts on the current times, it is simply to gauge opinions. I hope you have had a chance to fill this out. USASA is also giving you the chance to win one of two $50 vouchers for your thoughts! Amazing!

I have also been involved in two formal inquiries. It is always interesting to hear how others experience univeristy. If you feel you might be struggling through uni, feel free to reach out and I can direct your enquiry to the right department.

This month has also seen me connect with the post-grad rep, Ayrton. We have been discussing together the external and online environment for learning. This has seen us meet with an academic developer, Aiden Corneliu. Aiden has given us a great deal of information on what goes on in the background to develop online courses including the training and preparation of all online tutors and lecturers. The online course facilitators are given a great deal of information to deal with managing relationships online to learning analytics. This project is ongoing and we plan to continue to dig a little deeper.

Online student representative February report

February has been a wonderful month as we draw a close to SP1 for the online environment. I know this month was a challenge juggling homeschooling for myself. But the power of the brain and persistence to achieve no matter what always gets me through. I hope this SP1 has been a wonderful start to the year and you are relaxed going into finals and exams in early March. Remember to look after your health as a number one priority.

This month USASA hosted an online symposium for board members. We were introduced to a range of USASA staff and UniSA staff that may be able to assist our journey as board members. It was wonderful to get a better insight into roles/responsibilities and how each individual board member can collaborate with them. I will endeavour to make sure that I utilise these wonderful and inspiring people moving forward.

For next month in March, I have been working on something exciting alongside USASA that I look forward to sharing with you. Stay tuned to have your say.

Beginning of the year 2022

Welcome back to study in 2022 and a warm welcome to new online students and continuing online students. This year will bring lots of new and wonderful information to you and a great learning journey. It is always great to have a learning mindset, and what a fabulous place UniSA creates to embody a learning mindset. “Develop a passion for learning, if you do you will never cease to grow” – Anthony J ‘D’Angelo. Anthony is a man who dedicated his life to improving and empowering students in higher education. Enjoy your learning journey, take every little bit of information, soak it up and continue to grow. No matter our age, we can never stop learning.

In January USASA gave myself and the other board members a chance to understand more about the constitution of USASA, the policies, the vision and much more. I was truly inspired by the passion the other students had and their true desire to see students reach their potential. I want to share something small I learned from others attending the board retreat. One of the many highlights was listening to the other board members and their stories of who they are and what they are studying. By listening to a small part of their story and who they admire, their answers really touched my heart, most said “I admire my parents because…” (or mother or father). This sentence to me shows a strong grounding in who they are and what they want to achieve. This year’s board will be there for you so your voice can be heard.

In 2022 I plan to focus on student engagement and accountability. I would love to hear any experiences from online students. Please email me if you have any thoughts about what USASA is doing.
