This month has been incredibly busy and has included some travel as well. At the moment the Wirringka Student Services team is updating the training for all of its current tutors. I assisted with the development and delivery of this providing both my professional and student perspectives and experiences.

Month of September

Summary of activity

September was a quieter month however I did get the opportunity to meet some more students. On the 6th and 26th of this month I visited First Year students enrolled in Human Movement who were camping in Kuitpo Forest. Part of the evening included a Cultural Information Session which was delivered by two local Elders.

It was a good opportunity to meet students off of campus and increase engagement.

Month of August

Summary of activity

This month has been quite productive and I have done a lot of work to promote the University and student life with prospective students. This took place at the Year 12 Aboriginal Leadership Day at Port Adelaide Football Club and also over three days at the Darwin Career expo, I estimate that I have made contact with almost 4000 prospective students.

This month was largely about celebrating NAIDOC Week and the upcoming Census. In the lead up to NAIDOC Week I often do a lot of work networking and providing feedback about events, this year I was lucky enough to attend the SAHMRI Open Day to hear about the research which they are conducting in regards to Aboriginal Health.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander March Activity Report- Sophie Murray

Here we are! Some of us are finishing up SP1 and about to start SP3 while others are not too far off the SP2 study break and half way point. So, how are we all tracking?

By this point in the year you will have a fair idea of how you are coping with your study load and external commitments such as work, sport and family. You’re probably all crushing it but if you are unsure, fear not!

Despite the fact that it is March and many of you have been studying throughout the summer, I would just like to take the opportunity to say: Welcome back for 2016! And congratulations to all of the commencing students! You made it past what many call the greatest challenge of University, enrolment!

I trust you all had a restful break and are ready for a brand new year of study and personal growth. If you are around City West please drop in and catch up, I would love to hear about how you spent your holidays. Currently I am still located in the Yungondi Building on Level 2, Room 52.
