October Activity Report

Hi Everyone,

I hope everything is going well with your studies. It has been great to see an incline of students around all different campuses. It’s fantastic to see Aboriginal and Torres Islander students coming into the student units across the campuses I have visited recently; City West, Mawson Lakes & my home campus City East.

You can physically see the encouragement and effort given to all students by other students. I have enjoyed getting to know more familiar faces around campuses and seeing how hard everyone is working to finish the year the best they can.

Keep it up to everyone; keep studying hard, we are almost finished for the year, and then you guys and have a long deserved break.

See you next time for November’s activity report.

October City West Activity Report

Hey everyone,

I hope your October has been productive and fun, because mine has been all about planning. This is a time of the year where we start looking towards 2018 – planning our new classes, planning our holidays and planning how we, as students, will map out the rest of our studies and exams so we finish the year successfully. Mt Gambier Student rep report – Julie Baum

Hi Everyone,

It feels like it’s been a really quiet month but it actually hasn’t.  I know everyone has been working hard to get to the end of SP5 and get ready for the upcoming exams.

It’s been great to see the students who are in their last year working on and completing their final assignments.  I know a lot of students in nursing, teaching and social work who are all completing their final year as I am, it’s exciting and a bit strange knowing you are coming to the end of your degree.

Remember – for those preparing to enter the workforce Uni has services to support you to prepare your resumes and how to write cover letters etc, just check under the Career Services tab on your home page.

Silent study space – don’ forget the space available for study if you need a totally quiet area to prepare for exams , this is the place to go, also you can book room LC-21 as a small group study room if you work with a small study group.

We had a great time at our Unitopia event, the massages were really popular and our adopt a plant was highly successful, we had everything from indoor plants to veggies and herbs.  It was great to see so many students participating and having a good day.

I hope everyone is coping well at this time and that we all do well at finishing of the year, good luck with your final assignments and exams. Julie

October 2017 – Mawson Lakes Rep

Hi everyone,
What a month! I’m sure you’ve all been super busy heading into the hectic exam season, but hopefully UniTopia allowed you to unwind and feel renewed and relaxed.
USASA elections have also been occurring this month, so to all of the staff who worked hard to ensure they ran smoothly thank you. To all of the candidates – successful, and unsuccessful, as well as all students who participated by taking the time to vote, thank you for contributing to this important process.

Now onto what I’ve been up to this month:

UniTopia Mawson Lakes 17/10/17 –
I hope everyone who came and experienced the festivities of UniTopia at Mawson Lakes enjoyed themselves, as I certainly did. Events like this really showcase the best of USASA and it is especially great leading into such a stressful study period. I was lucky enough to work with the Women’s Committee on their responsible sex stall, and although turnout was quite low, we had some great conversations.
Louise Kyriaki (Postgraduate Rep), and I on the Responsibili-TEA stall at Mawson Lakes.

Other things I’ve been up to:

  • Brekky Bar – 04/10/17
  • USASA Board Meeting – 09/10/17
  • Brekky Bar – 11/10/17
  • Student Connect Meeting – 17/10/17
  • Academic Review Appeals Interview – 20/10/17
  • Academic Board Meeting – 27/10/17

What I’ve got planned for next month:
  • Clubs Committee Meeting – 31/10/17
  • Academic Review Meeting 31/10/17
  • Welfare Committee Meeting – 02/11/17
  • USASA Board Meeting 06/11/17
  • Academic Board Meeting 24/11/17

International Rep October Report

Hi everyone,

October was a busy month with lots of events and … assignments.

My highlight of this month was the Business Career Talk Networking Event on the 12th of October. This event was a joint effort of International Student Business School (Vietnam, Malaysia and Hongkong) and Indonesian Student Society of UniSA (PPIA UniSA). It was my honour to be able to work with the amazing team for the success of the night. The event attracted more than 100 students with a presence of 10 networking guests creating plenty of opportunities for students to expand their social network as well as to learn more about their future professions.

Other business:

13/10: USASA Clubs Awards Night

23/10: ISBS Vietnam Chapter AGM

That’s it for this month! I wish you the best of luck with your revision and exams.

October City West Rep Report – Zahra

Hey everyone,

Hope you’ve had a great October. The focus of this month for me was academics with changes to the Business School and the International Relations degree and Business School formal inquiries.

Business School Review – Focus Group
On October 4th, Kayla Dickeson (USASA President) and myself participated in the Business School focus group with the new 10 week semesters and Winter School as the agenda. The students were able to talk about their experiences and voice out the challenges they had faced due to these changes. It was great to receive recommendations to improve these changes.

Education Committee
During the committee we discussed, the proposed changes to the ENTEXT Policy. The current ENTEXT policy allows students of non-English speaking backgrounds, Aboriginal students and International students, the use of a bilingual dictionary during exams and extra time in exams (10 minutes for every 30 minutes). Specific questions were provided which allowed the members to consider the different aspects of the current policy and proposed changes.

This committee also discussed the changes that have been made to the International Relations degree. If you are an IR student, make sure you check your emails and read all the information to see how these changes affect you and your studies/enrolment.

Formal Inquiry
As my second time being a panel member on a formal inquiry, I felt more comfortable with the process and voicing out my thoughts. I was able to fill in the gaps where the other panel members needed to understand the current student perspective whilst considering the affected students case.
