Mawson Lakes Postgrad Rep – March Report – Shubhangi

Hi everyone!

I hope you have all been smashing your studies. It has been a busy month for me, dealing with assignments, meetings and work life.

Coming to the campus fair event, I hope you liked our USASA merch! I was there at the Mawson Lakes campus and I really enjoyed seeing you all jumping from one stall to other. Campus fair is no doubt a great opportunity to learn more about USASA’s services and interacting with the club executives/reps.

A new USASA space will soon open up at the Mawson Lakes campus and we want your ideas!! If you were on the Mawson Lakes Campus on Wednesdays, you must have met me, Charlene or Dinuk. We are trying to collect student ideas on what the space might look like. Your ideas will help us design/utilize the student space.

Go through the link below if you haven’t already submitted your idea.

Mawson Lakes Undergrad Rep – March Report – Charlene Lee

Hope everyone is enjoying the study break!

It was a busy month for me with a lot of events and activities happening, so here’s a run down of some key points.

Campus Fair

I had the pleasure of attending all four metro Campus Fairs, representing USASA at City West and Mawson Lakes. It was great chatting to students about what we do as a Student Association, handing out freebies and getting to talk to the Club Executives who were running the stalls.

I know I harp on about how fantastic our UniSA clubs are way too much, but talking to execs made me feel so grateful that we have such motivated people at UniSA who go out of their way to create a sense of community for other students.

Clubs Welcome Night

The Friday after all the Campus Fairs wrapped up, I attended the Clubs Welcome Night which was an event to meet and get to know club executives from different clubs. After that night, I probably signed up to about 7 more clubs just because every club that was represented at the event sounded like they had amazing events coming up. A big thank you to the USASA staff who organised it.

Mawson Lakes USASA Space

Some exciting news for my Mawson Lakes friends – we finally have our own USASA space! It’s where the old co-op shop used to be, and is just a big empty room full of potential waiting to be designed. So for the past couple of weeks, myself, Shubhangi and Dinuk have been trying to get student feedback on what sort of things people would like to see in the space, because at the moment, the limit is our imagination (and probably some budget).

I’ve plastered Mawson Lakes in posters with a QR code linking to a survey which asks for feedback on what people would want in their student lounge. We also ran a snack stand on the 7th of April down on campus where we gave out free food, asked people to take the survey and just chatted to students about the things they would like to see.

So if you have time, please take the survey (link below) and you can go into the draw to win a UniSA Hoodie. I really want this space to be student inspired – your thoughts matter to us! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JLPHZF5

Clubs Committee Meeting

We had the second clubs committee meeting where some of the main things we discussed were COVID-19 regulations for club events and feedback on the Clubs Welcome Night. The next meeting will be on Friday the 11th of June at 2:00pm.

Magill Undergraduate Student Representative – January Activity Report- Amelianna Alfred Domnic

Hello everyone!

Hope you have had an amazing summer. A very warm welcome to our returning students and an extended welcome to our new students! A little bit about myself, I am Amelianna and I am currently in my 3rd year studying the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). With everything that had happened in 2020, I am glad that each and everyone of you here have made it through. May we step into 2021 filled with hope, strength and goals.

The month of January was a month of learning as I am new to this position. The following is a summary of what I had experienced through the month:

USASA BOARD RETREAT

The USASA board retreat was held from the 18th of January to the 19th of January at Handorf. This event was particularly special to me for a number of reasons. To start with, it was the first time I had met all of the board members & staff and it was amazing to get to know each and one of them. Next, it was fun learning about all my responsibilities as your student rep and of what USASA does for students. Finally, it has prepared me for my position and made me aware of the things I may expect through the year.

After much training, I am excited to have kick started my duty and beyond grateful to have an amazing group of board members and staff for support.

USASA Board Meeting

The first board meeting for 2021 was held on the 19th of January at around 3pm. During this session, covenors were elected to respective existing sub-committees. I had nominated myself to join (as a member) to the Clubs Committee as I am interested in events that are held for students and joined the Diversity, Equity and Access (DEA) Committee as I am passionate about inclusivity & equality. I am looking forward to attending the upcoming meetings.

See ya next month!

Mawson Lakes Undergrad Rep – January Report – Charlene Lee

Hi all,

I hope everyone is either enjoying their holidays and/or easing back into uni life. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Charlene, I am a third-year student completing a Bachelor of Mathematics (Data Science), and I am very excited for the things in store for 2021.

The month of January was really about learning the technicalities of my role as a rep and setting goals for myself to achieve. Here’s a run down of what happened.

USASA Board Retreat

I attended the USASA board retreat where various staff members from USASA ran workshops and sessions in order to prepare us for the year ahead. These two days really helped orientate me to my role as a campus representative and understand what I can expect moving forward. It was also a great time to reflect and strategize plans for the forthcoming year.

I was especially excited by the team dynamic that developed over the retreat, as it became apparent that we each share the same drive and passion to deliver objectives on behalf of students.

USASA Board Meeting

In the first board meeting for 2021, I was elected as Convenor for the Clubs Committee. This committee is an excellent way for club executives to bring forward ideas and share opinions on how USASA can empower them to maximise their impact on students. I am currently in the process of planning the first meeting for this committee.
